Welcome to the course!

The course starts on October 31 and relies mostly on recorded material and self studies with opportunities for non mandatory online supervision (Zoom). Important information before the course starts can be found in the welcome letter. The Modules tab on canvas contains various course study material outside of the course literature, such as recorded lectures, recorded coding videos and other study material. To complete the course, there are three mandatory assignments, which can be found under the Assignments tab.

The course requires you to install R and RStudio on your computer. Instructions on how to install R and RStudio can be found here.

Teachers: Joakim Wallmark and Filip Edström

If you have any questions, please send us an email with the subject starting with [DAwR-1]. It helps us identifying emails and helps us respond faster.

Course literature:

R for data science : import, tidy, transform, visualize and model data (2nd edition, https://r4ds.hadley.nz/)
Wickham Hadley, Mine Çetinkaya-Rundel, Grolemund Garrett
2023
ISBN: 1492097403

We recommend using the free, online, second edition of the book for several reasons

  • The book is heavily based on code, and code changes, so a printed book may get outdated.
  • For the same reason, we prefer the second edition.  Make sure it says "R for Data Science (2e)".
  • The online version allows for copying code directly from the book into R.

Reading instructions will be posted as the course start, but if you're eager to get going chapters 1-9 is a very good start.
